A Walk For Stanley by Peter Driver

A Walk For Stanley by Peter Driver

Regular price £20.00 Sale

A project by local artist Peter Driver that encompassed a 39 mile walk from the Stanley Spencer Gallery in Cookham, in the north-eastern corner of Berkshire to the Sandham Memorial Chapel south of Newbury – one of Spencer’s master works. The book includes drawings, woodcut illustrations, photographs, bird sightings, poetry, and thoughts along Peter's journey. Drawings were made at two mile intervals, and photographs were taken with digital camera but also on black and white film with a vintage Kodak Brownie camera. The route passes elements of the Chiltern Way, the Thames, the Kennet, and the Kennet & Avon canal, as well as Pinkneys Green, Wargrave, Charvil, Sonning, Reading, Ufton Nervet, Aldermaston Wharf, Woolhampton, Greenham Common, Burghclere, and more points in between.

Reviews:

“Beautiful, poignant and thoughtful. With genuine warmth and gentle humour Peter Driver’s ‘A Walk for
Stanley’ feels like a stroll with a much loved companion.”
Rev Kate Bottley, Broadcaster

“Its been a complete joy to see Peter’s work develop since he first showed with us in 2014. Everything he does is
so personal, relevant, thoughtful and generous.”
Joanne Bushnell, Director, Aspex Gallery

“Peter Driver’s art, photography and prose flow like a subterranean river: always moving and contributing to a
wider whole with modesty and vigour. A wonderful book.”
Philip Miles, Senior Lecturer in Cultural Sociology, University of Bedfordshire
