Ammonite Pendant

Ammonite Pendant

Regular price £3.50 Sale

Product Description: This Ammonite pendant is made from lead-free pewter and is moulded directly from an ammonite. The ammonite pendant is supplied on a silver chain. The pendant is mounted on an information card, which explains about ammonites.

Information: Ammonites are an extinct group of marine invertebrate animals. They lived in the seas between 240 - 65 million years ago, when they became extinct along with the dinosaurs. The name ‘ammonite’ originates from the Greek ram-horned god called Ammon.

Ammonites belong to a group of predators known as cephalopods, which includes their living relatives the octopus, squid and cuttlefish. They would feed on most living marine creatures including molluscs, fish and even other cephalopods.

Over millions of years Ammonite shells became fossilised. It is often possible to link the rock layer in which a particular species or genus is found to specific geological time periods.
