Roman Ruler

Product Description: The Roman Ruler is made from wood and measures 30cm long (made from FSC Certified Wood). On the reverse, it shows measurements in both inches and centimetres. On the inches scale it includes units of 1/8 of an inch and on the centimetre side units of 5 millimetres.

The front of the ruler shows measurements in centimetres and also the Roman inch (unciae) and foot (pes). The is also a description of Roman measurements and their numbering system.

Information: The Roman foot (pes) measured 295.7mm or 11.6 inches (to the nearest tenth) and was made up of 12 inches (unciae). Their pace (passus) measured 1.48 metres. 1,000 paces measured a Roman mile or 1,480 metres, 1,618 yards.

Roman numerals are a combination of seven letters: I (1), V (5), X (10), L (50), C (100), D (500), and M (1,000). For example, eight letters are needed for 88 – LXXXVIII.
