The Reading 'crest' was first recorded in 1566, which originally depicted five maidens heads, rams as references to the wool trade in Reading and scallop shells, representing the Pilgrims who often travelled to Reading. The motto reads 'A DEO ET REGINA' - From God and the Queen.
