This pocket-sized version of 'Sumer is Icumen in' is a fabulous reproduction of the medieval round, written by Barbara Morris, Phillipa Hardman and artist and letterer Sally Castle.
Written by the monks of Reading Abbey in approximately 1250, this manuscript is most famous for demonstrating a cheerful complexity along with instructions on how it should be sung. The book is inclusive of an exact copy of the original manuscript in colour, accompanied by an explanatory text by Chaucer scholar Phillipa Hardman of Reading University. The fantastic illustrations by Sally Castle beautifully portray the celebration of spring depicted in words and music.
